Lion’s Head is another must visit in Cape Town. The hike isn’t demanding, but even if it was it would be so worth it. The views are the best around!
Lion’s Head sits separate from Table Mountain, and gives a full 360 panoramic view over everything Cape Town has to offer. You can see for miles over the entire city bowl, the Twelve Apostles mountains, Table Mountain, and out over the Ocean. As far as views go, you can’t really ask for much more than what you get from the Lion’s Head.
It’s also simple to find and easy to follow; just get to the Lion’s Head car park on Signal Hill Road and the trail starts there and should take about 40 mins to the top!
The trail loops around the mountain as you climb, then towards the top it splits; you can either continue along the gentle trail until you reach the summit, or, if you’re feeling a bit more daring, you can use the metal chains fastened to the mountain to climb the rocky ledges. From that point on, you’re climbing the very tip of the Lion’s Head. This is quite steep and can be daunting if you suffer from vertigo, but it’s not demanding at all and completely worth it (children make it up all the time in case you’re worried!).
Once you’re there… wow. The views are simply stunning! This is a popular spot, so don’t expect to have the peak to yourself, but there’s plenty of space (and it means there will always be someone to take a group photo for you!) This place will take your breath away.
