Pedra Bonita Hike, Rio de Janeiro
Pedra Bonita, or the Beautiful Stone in English, stands above the São Conrado beach and is a popular spot for hang-gliders and parasailers. The views from the top are stunning, and the hike to get there is relatively easy, with a great pay off.

Starting Point: The hike up Pedra Bonita starts in the Tijuca National Park. The easiest way to get there is by car or taxi; there is a big parking area by the start of the trail. At the first parking lot, you will see a small Ranger Post next to a sign saying “Trilha da Pedra Bonita”; this is the start of the trail.
The Hike: The hike itself is quite easy, and will take you roughly 20-30 minutes to reach the top. The trail goes steadily uphill through the trees and is pretty much covered the whole way. there is a lot of wildlife in the area, so don’t be surprised to see different birds, butterflies and possibly even monkeys.
The views from the top are spectacular, so it would certainly be worthwhile taking a packed lunch so you can sit out and absorb the beauty of the area, and watch the hang-gliders taking off. You will have a fantastic view over the São Conrado beach, as well as the famous Tijuca Forest and other big peaks such as Pico da Tijuca, the famous face of Pedra da Gávea and Christ the Redeemer. What more could you want!
