The Ampersand Hotel in Kensington is a beautiful and slightly eclectic boutique hotel in the heart of South Kensington.
This is a beautifully converted Victorian hotel, but while the building may have been constructed in 1889, the Ampersand is anything but old inside, with large flat-screen TV’s and media hubs throughout. The rooms are luxurious and contemporary, each inspired by different local Landmarks, such as planets to represent the Science Museum. The hotel has kept some its Victorian features, such as the grand staircase and high ceilings, which contrasts nicely with modern fittings like the beautiful art installation running down the stairwell.
The Ampersand has an enviable location around the corner from places such as Hyde Park, the Royal Albert Hall and Harrods, while it is practically next door to the French Institute, showing a range of films and exhibitions. This French theme continues with local cafés and bookshops, and carries into the hotel with the eclectically colourful, French-style Drawing Room, serving a wonderful afternoon tea and champagne. The Apero restaurant and cocktail bar can be found in the hotel’s basement, beath the period Victorian arches.
